About this site

One saint a day, and an entry for every canonised saint of the Catholic Church. The calendar follows the General Roman Calendar; the A to Z lists every saint; by patronage groups them by the intentions, callings and places they are invoked for.

How entries grow

Every saint begins as a stub: name, feast, dates and places of birth and death where they are recorded, patronage, and a one-line description, all drawn from structured sources and marked as such. A stub is expanded into a full life, with the collect the Church prays on the feast and something the saint said, as the work proceeds. The tracker shows which entries are done.

Sources

The list of saints and the structured facts on stubs come from Wikidata, which records canonisation status, feast day, dates, and patronage for each saint, with links to Wikipedia. Feast days and ranks on the calendar follow the current General Roman Calendar. Full lives draw on the Roman Martyrology, Butler’s Lives of the Saints, and the documents of canonisation. Collects are given in the English of the Roman Missal, third edition, or paraphrased where the text is not in the public domain. The research notes and the raw dataset are in the repository’s research/ folder.

How today is chosen

The site is rebuilt every morning. The build takes the date, finds the saints kept that day, and shows the one the General Roman Calendar names, preferring a full life over a stub. The others appear under “Also today”.
